Bay
and Basin Sportsfishing- Jervis Bay to Batemans Bay and beyond…
One of the PFIGA’s
newest members, Greg Reid is a highly respected south coast tour
guide, trainer, and marine service provider. Greg operates Bay and
Basin Sportsfishing which is "A guided fishing and boating
experience” from Jervis Bay to Batemans Bay and beyond…Experience
the exhilaration of fishing with soft plastic and hard bodied lures
whilst surrounded by the stunning natural beauty of our pristine
south coast bays, rivers, and estuaries.
The waters of St Georges
Basin near Jervis Bay (2hrs south of Sydney) is quickly developing a
reputation as one of the most productive estuarine systems in NSW.
Since the removal of commercial fishing in 2002 this system has
experienced amazing regeneration and is now well regarded as the
home of XOS flathead, tailor, snapper and bream .
Contrary to popular
belief, the Jervis Bay Marine Park is open for business and Bay and
Basin Sportsfishing has permits to fish these waters primarily
targeting snapper, big kingfish, year round Australian salmon (great
fun on fly), a good chance at a marlin off the world famous Torpedo
Tubes in summer, and more. Jervis Bay has the whitest sands in the
world and on its day rivals the Whitsunday Islands in terms of its
natural beauty. Greg has over 20,000 logged commercial hours
cruising Jervis Bay and knows the place like the back of his hand.
“I got my first fishing
rod when I was 5 years old and I still remember hooking my
grandfather as I cast off the wharf at Forster on xmas holidays.
That was over 35 years ago and I still get just as excited the night
before another fishing experience. Now the dream has become a
reality, and Bay and Basin Sportsfishing has been born.”
Greg Reid previously
owned the Australian Boating College (where he was senior
instructor), was the skipper/guide for 8 years on “Tekin III” an 18m
whale watching vessel in Jervis Bay. Greg has trained thousands of
students in southern NSW for their boat licence and has developed a
solid reputation as a professional and competent master 5 skipper,
tourism guide and south coast marine service provider.
Greg also spent a few
years sailing on tallships, cruised the entire east coast, worked as
a deckhand on “Halicat” gamefishing out of Sydney Harbour,
professionally fished on cray boats in Western Australia, and
travelled extensively travelling Australia and Indonesia. All the
while and on every job, a fishing rod wasn’t far away. Greg has
experienced some of the most mind blowing fishing action,
particularly around the Australian coastline, from Bass Straight in
the south to the Kimberley in the great northern never never.
The last few years
however have seen a shift in focus to unravelling the secrets of our
south coast estuaries, particularly St Georges Basin and Jervis Bay,
and the action on its day is as good as anywhere. Bay and Basin
Sportsfishing is a highly professional operation set up to ensure
you get the most out of your fishing experience in a fun and safe
way. So if you’ve never used a soft plastic or hard bodied lure and
your keen to learn and be taught by a patient guide, or you’re a
serious fishing addict like our good selves, then we aim to provide
“tight lines and good times!” So what are you waiting for? Pick up
the phone today.
See you on the water
some time
